I stay an individual contributor while enabling the people around me and driving delivery. Architecture, mentoring, and delivery process sit on top of hands-on engineering, not instead of it.

Regulated platforms

Tax and banking systems required correctness, auditability, and availability, not just features.

At Taxlab I led architecture and delivery of the Australia calculation framework and a high-throughput public API that integrates with the ATO, built on .NET and Orleans. The engineering practice held ISO 27001 for several years. At Lightstone I led the team building property-valuation integrations for Investec.

Delivery systems used by many teams

This is not one product. It is the framework other engineers ship on.

At Woolworths I proposed the multi-cloud Development Framework across Azure and Google Cloud. The aim was standards, tooling, and AI-assisted practices that reduce technical and process debt in .NET delivery.

Products already in production

Existing products with hybrid estates, security constraints, and people already depending on them.

At Gallagher I worked on the architecture and proof of concept for a new OIDC capability, onboarded a new team, and advised the architecture group on DDD. At Xero I led the rebuild of Global Menu, taking throughput up several times while running it on far fewer servers, and worked on Kubernetes adoption across a large set of .NET microservices.

Operational systems

Aviation and travel systems that had to run under real operational load.

At Comair I led architecture and delivery of the Electronic Flight Bag and vacation packaging portal, and set up the airline’s first BI capability, including a data warehouse and Sabre integrations. At Serko, in a shorter role, I introduced Sumo Logic observability for .NET services, including custom logging middleware.

Building and advising

Since 2018 I have run Net Advantage alongside employed roles: cloud-native .NET and Blazor work, Azure AI, reusable libraries, Bicep, and workshops on sustainable engineering practice. Earlier, I co-founded TechTrek and Win on the Web and spent a long stretch on client architecture and delivery.

Earlier systems

Practical systems from earlier client and product work that shaped the same delivery habit:

• Timesheet applications for a major European consulting firm and a major South African bank - time capture and reconciliation across large deployed teams.
• Job tracking for electronics repair workshops - goods receiving, repair tracking, spares, despatch, collections, invoicing, and reporting.
• Innovation hub solution for platinum mine cost-saving management - multi-user synchronisation under hard operational constraints in the 1990s and early 2000s.
